I took the pestering initiative of intruding into her space and persuaded her to play the Russian folk song Katyusha which I was then in the process of learning, with some degree of mastery, the Japanese version of the lyrics, or at the very least to accompany my attempt at vocalizing the song.
Call it karma or just the vagaries of chance, it turned out that she was
of distant Jewish Russian descent and one of the pet names she used
amongst her close circle of friends at that time just happened to be
